I hope you do knit the sock yarn up and post a pic of it. Its not often that I get the chanch to see one of my babies grow up and become something. Each one is different because they are done one at a time so there are no dye lots or color ways. I am glad this one will remind you of Ketchikan, because I do try to take my ideas from our rainforest and its history.

The idea of the less-than-attractive musk ox being the origin of lovely qiviut fiber doesn't surprise me much. I've petted buffalo fiber for sale (but can't afford to buy it) and even though it doesn't come from my local buffalo, still...I gottta say - only the baby buffs are cute!

I do like the yarn you chose - those bright bits stand out so well, and it doesn't look at all Christmassy to me. I'll look forward to seeing what pattern you decide to use!

Perfect souvenir yarn! But no qiviut? A little goes a long way, so maybe not as expensive per stitch as you'd think...No regrets! Enjoy your sock yarn!

You didn't get any qiviut? Did you at least get to pet some? That sock yarn is lovely.

My sister-in-law and her ex-husband used to travel a lot, and he would always buy her jewelry when they travelled. He always said that it wasn't so much the jewelry itself that mattered, as the memmories each piece invoked when worn in the future. That's exactly what you said about the sock yarn, and I feel the same way. That's the whole reason to buy yarn on vacation, even if it's a brand you can get at home. I'll always think of my trip to San Francisco when I wear my scarf made with the Plymouth Baby Alpaca Grande I bought there.

Thanks for sharing!
